The concept for the Codex platform took root a few years ago in the mind of Jenny Hill, President of Dadavan Systems. Dadavan has worked in partnership with Indigenous communities since 2001. Those relationships fostered a deep respect for culture and community and led to the development of Codex. Above all, the platform is designed to make it easy for anyone to create beautiful, shareable digital stories.
Bound, handwritten codices (plural for codex) were the first ancient books. The word codex is derived from the Latin word caudex which means "trunk of a tree". Like a tree, Codex creates living, growing branches of knowledge, beautifully bound together by a shared platform.
We wanted the Codex logo to pay a respectful homage to its origins while simultaneously referencing the meaning behind its name. Our team turned to Design de Plume to create our logo. The branches reaching to the sky are reflected by roots digging into the earth. If you look closely, you can also see a mirrored āCā representing our brand name as well!
Our whole team loves our new logo. Thank you Design de Plume! High Five!
"Design de Plume is an Aboriginally-owned company that provides communication and branding services across Canada. Established in 2009, we are especially passionate about working on projects that raise awareness and support for pressing issues that face our communities today. Working with Dadavan on the Custom Codex project was exciting for us to be a small part of. Its attention to detail and user-friendly interface open a range of possibilities for people to take part in preserving language, tradition, and culture for everyone to share and participate in. We look forward to seeing it grow and where the future will take it."
