Six Social Media Hashtags That Your Museum Should Be Using In 2018

Hashtags inspire global conversation by linking together relevant information on social media from niche communities. For museums, hashtags give you the ability to reach more people from around the world with your story and connect with them in a meaningful way.

In case you’re not familiar with the term, hashtags have become a prominent part of today's culture and are commonly used to connect similar content. They’re formed by a word or multiword phrase preceded by the # symbol—for example, #ThrowbackThursday or #Sweepstakes. On social media, people can click on a hashtag to discover other content that was tagged with that hashtag.

At Codex, we rely on hashtags to engage with industry partners, clients, peers and colleagues from around the world. We believe that hashtags are a great marketing tool for museums and other cultural organizations looking to grow their reach. In this article we’ll be exploring several hashtags that are being used by museums to discuss industry topics or simply to promote their museums on a broader scale. These hashtags are primarily used on Twitter, but are also sometimes used on Instagram and Facebook.

Here are six social media hashtags your museum should be using:

#MuseTech

Technology has played a huge role in revolutionizing the way museums promote their collections and the way people interact with their exhibits—and the tech shows no signs of slowing down. One of our favorite depictions of what’s to come from museum tech is this:
